The kernels are protected by a corrugated woody shell inside the fruit which is a fleshy green drupe. Walnuts are similar to pecans in shape but are rounder. Their colour also range from light to dark brown. They are available either raw or roasted, in-shell or shelled, and are among the most popular nuts used in cooking and baking.
